Getting into a morning routine can be difficult if you aren’t a morning person. (If are struggling to be a morning person I broke it down into super easy steps to become a morning person in 3 effortless steps)
It seems like every time you turn around everyone says do this for your morning routine and you’ll be a new person! A morning routine is awesome but what if you don’t want to be a new person just a better one?
That’s why you need to find one that works for you and is something that you like. It doesn’t have to be a super long routine, unless you want it to be, it just needs to be something that fits into your lifestyle.
A lot of the routines that I have seen others have don’t always fit into my lifestyle and I am on another search to find something that works for me. That’s why you should build a routine that works for you, not copying someone else’s routine that doesn’t work for your morning.
I have compiled a list of things to do in your morning routine. Don’t worry about doing all of them (that would be overwhelming), just do a number of things that will fit into your schedule.

Day 5 is all about getting into a morning routine.
Eat breakfast and drink H2O
Eating breakfast is the thing that everyone should have in their morning routine.
We have all heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But do you even know why?
Eating breakfast will affect how your body breaks down foods the rest of the day. “After a healthy breakfast your blood sugar increases a little bit, but it will take a while for your body to absorb it,” says Eric Rimm, Sc.D., a professor of epidemiology and nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston tells Consumer Reports. “So you might not be hungry for lunch for 5 hours.” (you can check out the full article here.)
That means eating breakfast can help keep you on your diet. You won’t have the urge to snack and when lunch and dinner roll around you won’t overeat because you won’t be overly hungry. And starting your day off with a glass of water will help get your digestion moving.
Your body has been fasting all night while you were sleeping so drinking water first thing helps wake you up and get moving. And we all know the benefits of drinking water: clearer skin, healthy digestion, cuts down on headaches, etc.
Make sure you make time to eat breakfast and drink water in your morning routine.
Wash your face
Okay, you probably already wash your face in the morning but you probably don’t clean your face all the way. The best thing to add to your skincare routine is the PMD Clean.
The PMD Clean cleans and energizes your skin. It has little scrubbers on it and it vibrates so it will break down the dirt and oil that accumulated while you were sleeping and leaves you with fresh skin ready for the day. Plus it’s fast so it doesn’t take to much time of your time in the morning. Because let’s be honest no one likes to have to do something that makes you late in the morning.
The PMD Clean also works wonders when you use a serum too you just have to turn it around and it helps your skin absorb the serum. So it’s great for night use as well (if you didn’t already know that ?)
You can’t watch your face without moisturizing it as well. Make sure you pick a moisturizer that also has SPF in it. The sun will prematurely age your skin, so SPF is the best way to keep your skin from aging. (Did I mention that the PMD Clean also helps with anti-aging with the anti-aging facial massage?)
Adding the PMD Clean to your morning routine will save you time in the morning and you’ll know your face is clean to start the day.
Get moving
You don’t have to go to the gym or for a run, just get moving to get your heart pumping so you know have the urge to go back to bed.
It can be as simple as a 5-10 minute stretching routine or J&J Official 7-Minute Workout app.
This is an app that has 7-minute workouts that you can do quickly in the morning. Each exercise only lasts 30 seconds with a short break after each one. It’s just long enough to get you energized but short enough that it doesn’t suck.
It’s not going to replace your normal form of exercise but it will get you going in the morning. You can even customize a 7-minute workout based on works outs that you like. It’s a great way to get your blood pumping and start your day!
Do your hair and makeup
When you do your hair and makeup it can give you the boost of confidence that you need to feel good throughout the day. Sometimes when you are in a hurry you just pile your hair on top of your head and do your makeup in the car (or go without). When you start a morning routine you’ll be able to give yourself enough time to get those things done. And when we feel put together we have more confidence in the day.
You don’t have to have crazy hard hairstyle every day or do a perfect cat eye. It can be as simple as quick curls and foundation, mascara, and some bronzer. If you keep it simple you won’t feel so overwhelmed and you are more likely to keep it.
Change out of your PJs
I am talking about on the weekends as well. It’s easy to change out of your pj’s during the week but on the weekends we tend to wear them until late in the afternoon. I know as a SAHM it is hard to change because my husband is home in the morning on the weekends and we like to lounge around. But it usually backfires on us because we push doing out errands until the last minute.
When you change out of your PJs it will make you feel less sleepy and ready to tackle the day. Which gives you more confidence throughout the day.
Complete a simple goal
Setting goals are great! But what happens when they are really big and seem daunting? We won’t do them. Sometimes you need to set little goals to build momentum to complete the big goal.
By setting a small goal in the morning it will give you that push you need to keep going. It can be as easy as making your bed first thing in the morning or saving some money by making your coffee at home. Don’t make it a big goal or you won’t get it done and that’s not going to give you the confidence you want.
You can make a list of them that you can rotate throughout the week. You can even write them in your new fancy planner that you got from day 2, that way you know what days you need to complete what.
Say Affirmations
Saying affirmations can set the day up for a more positive tone. You’ll wake away feeling better about yourself.
You can say them while looking at yourself in the mirror or in the car on your way to work. You can find affirmations all over the internet, so find one that works for you or you can even think of some on your own.
If you want to come up with affirmations that are custom to you, you first need to think of the things that you want to happen in your life. It could be getting a raise at work or learning to love yourself. You can start out by saying, “I am a hard worker who takes pride in the work I do. I will work hard to earn the raise I deserve. I am a valued member of my team.”
Saying things like that will lift your spirits so by the time you make it to work and you’ll already set yourself up to have a good day.
The takeaway
Morning routines don’t have to be long or hard. And finding one that’ll work for your lifestyle will make your year a more confident one and more positive.
Now that we have completed day 5 of 7 days to your best year yet and gotten ourselves in a better position to make the year just that. But what about your house or your finances? We still have 2 more days to tackle those so make sure to check back in.
